Integrating Contemplative & Somatic Practices

Sometimes we need additional techniques to go deeper. Perhaps you’re interested in using contemplative practices (meditation, yoga, body work, etc.) alongside psychotherapy to figure out what you are really feeling moment to moment. Maybe you’re experiencing some meditation challenges or spiritual process that could use some support and integration. Perhaps you’re processing the often complex cross-cultural contexts where these practices are often shared. Feel free to reach out for these kinds of support.

I’ve taken a deep dive into the study and teaching of contemplative practices including meditation and yoga for the past twenty years, and I’m a NCBTMB Board Certified Massage Therapist trained in somatic techniques to support psychotherapy. The benefits of these methods can be remarkable and research also shows that when someone is not well supported, these practices can be dysregulating and cause harm. Responses to these practices are as unique as we all are. I won’t push any practice or agenda on you, rather I let your interests lead.

Acute/Chronic Illness & End of Life Support

A difficult health diagnosis affects body, mind & spirit, and inner & outer life. Managing an illness often also involves reckoning with grief, supporting caregivers, and sometimes the complexity of navigating health systems exacerbates the stress felt by all. It can be confusing to know how to navigate taking medical leave and completing advance health care directives. Over the past decade I’ve had the honor to provide direct support for those managing a serious illness and those experiencing end of life, as well as their loved ones.

Adding therapy to your support system during these sensitive times can help process and integrate these deeply moving and often challenging experiences. Let’s address the practical and logistical and make room to be with the subtle, emotional and existential.

LGBTQI+

I see conversations about identity, sex and gender as assets to psychotherapeutic work. My work in the US began at the Mazzoni Center, Philadelphia’s LGBTQ healthcare center, and I’ve personally been a direct caregiver for gender affirming surgery recovery. I’m available to write gender-affirming care letters of support. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m committed to understanding individual nuances and supporting our strengths.
